Phase 1: The Driveway

The first phase of our house project is the driveway. The location we picked for our house sits 300 yards off the road, up a hill. This first picture is taken from the main road. The driveway will follow the mowed path up the hill. The house will sit beyond the trees up there.... This will be 'before' picture A.

The first swipes of the driveway were to remove top soil so that they could fill in some dirt at the base of the hill to make the drive not quite as steep. 'Before' Photo C.

The house will sit just left of where I was standing (you can see some wood stakes in the ground marking the corner of the house). Top soil is being removed from our back yard here, so that they could dig out dirt to fill in the driveway.

The next photo has nothing to do with the driveway but it is a where the electric line will run to our house. I'm standing in the backyard area of our future house, and the equipment you see across the 'valley' is the back yard area of Aaron's parents house. This use to be woods, but Aaron and his brothers cleared it so the electric poles/electric can be run. It was nearly finished when we left for our honeymoon and his brothers finished it up while we were gone!

This is the backyard mentioned above...... Aaron is in the truck hauling dirt to the bottom of the hill, Aaron's brother, Chris, is in the CAT, and a friend was then smoothing out the dirt to fill in the driveway. They did many many loads of dirt, working 4 days on the driveway.

Aaron is standing at the base of the hill, just off the drive, where the majority of the dirt was being put. You can see that the drive was built up several feet already when I took this, they added more dirt the following day, I think that part of the drive they added 5 or more feet of dirt. This the 'After' picture of C.

This is taken from the main road, when it was nearly finished, there were just a few more dirt loads to spread out. If you can see the two trees that the driveway goes between at the top of the hill, the house will sit just beyond them to the left.

This the 'After' picture of B. It looks down towards the road from where the house will sit. They put down a black 'fabric' that is the last step before gravel. Gravel hasn't come yet, but soon.

As my mother-in-law and I were walking down our new drive before the black fabric was on, this green snake crossed over in front of us.
